Alice Atkinson
Early Childhood Associate Professor Alice Atkinson has been an active participant with the 4Cs Community Coordinated Child Care Resource and Referral Agency for Johnson and Washington County, since it began in the early 1970s. Professor Atkinson has been president four times and has held other offices in addition to serving as a member of the board for many years. Professor Atkinson also volunteers at a local kindergarten (Lincoln Elementary School) and has done so for over a dozen years.
Involved with Johnson County Empowerment for five years, Professor Atkinson is now the vice president of this organization and a member of the Early Childhood Workgroup. Additionally, Professor Atkinson is the treasurer of the Iowa City Chapter of the Iowa Association for the Education of Young Children (IAEYC), where she has been involved in creating the local "Week of the Young Child Celebration" for the past three years. Professor Atkinson also volunteers as host at the Kent Park Education Center on Saturday afternoons.
