President Skorton has declared the 2005-2006 academic year the "Year of Public Engagement." Throughout the year, we will spotlight individuals and groups within the University community who embody the spirit of public engagement at the local, state, national, and/or international levels.
Carol Girdler
A lecturer in the Department of Teaching and Learning and the Department of Health and Sport Studies, Carol Girdler volunteers with the American Red Cross and has done so for over 20 years. She is a First Aid/CPR/AED instructor and instructor trainer, a member of the Health and Human Services Oversight Committee of the Grant Wood Area Chapter, and just finished as the coordinator of the Hawkeye Hurricane Relief. The Hawkeye Hurricane Relief effort raised approximately $20,000 for the Red Cross to distribute to hurricane evacuees.
