Ken Brown

Dr. Brown is currently teaching two courses with a service learning component. The first is a freshman seminar that covers distinctions among volunteering, leading nonprofits, and becoming a social entrepreneur. The seminar will culminate with a community service project that the students organize.

The second service learning class is an upper-level elective where students conduct human resource consulting projects with local nonprofits like the Iowa Children’s Museum and the Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity ReStore. The University of Iowa's Center for Teaching provides resources to faculty and students interested in service learning.

Dr. Brown's own philanthropic work includes service as President of the Board of Directors for Good Shepherd Corporation as well as volunteer work for the Free Lunch Program and First United Methodist Church.
