Pamela Trimpe

Pamela Trimpe, administrative head of Old Capitol Museum and the Museum of Natural History, brought a service learning component into her Introduction to Museum Studies course. Students collaborated with the staff of the Iowa Children’s Museum and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art on projects ranging from exhibit design to public outreach. From this experience, students acquired a better understanding of museums as mission-driven institutions with multiple educational and cultural functions. The class traveled to both museums, including a special, "behind-the-scenes," tour of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art's Grant Wood at Five Turner Alley exhibition and Grant Wood's studio.
